RESCUE VESSELS

The Lifeboat Institution presently has over 140 vessels in service with our local associations covering our coastal and inland waters. This includes 12 rescue cruisers and 84 lifeboats. There are an additional 50 support vessels in service. The flagship of the Institution is the Helsinki-based PR Jenny Wihuri that is 24 meters in length and has a displacement of 45 tons.

In recent years, the Institution has renewed its fleet with speedboats, most of which have been aluminum, lean bottom or RIB boats (Rigid Inflatable Boats).

The Institution is currently engaged in a process of classification of rescue vessels. The target is that in the future, our volunteers will have six vessel classes ranging from PV I to PV V, and rescue cruisers, that are all fast, capable of independent operation, specifically designed for search and rescue service and suit Finnish climatic conditions.
